The fuss last week in the news about the possible bird flu pandemic has died down somewhat as the scribbling classes dug their claws into the idiot Blunkett. Just in case anyone is in doubt, failure to disclose a potential serious conflict of interest is not 'just a mistake', it's just not acceptable. Don't try and justify it - just go and never return - although we all know he'll turn up in the EU somewhere soon.

But the pandemic was great sensational news and one discussion that caught my ear on the radio was a debate over eligbility for vaccination. The premise being that there will not be enough to go round. So, who misses out? The elderly? They've lived their lives haven't they? Criminals? Murderers? But they've paid their debt. Immigrants? Steady on. So who is to be denied the possible life saving injection? Remember, there are more people than shots, so someone is going to go wanting...

The last suggestion was 'the unemployed'. Those who are serial benefit takers and non contributors. They have put nothing into society - they merely withdraw - so the caller argued they should be at the back of the queue after the taxpayers.

Interesting and totally politically unacceptable. Doesn't make it a bad idea though does it?
